Walthamstow 2/3

In previous years this London based big fish water has produced the biggest fish of the tournament to the same fella, Will O Flynn. At 42lbs it’s a real target and the chance to fish the normally day only 2/3 at night is something not to be missed. Loads of upper twenties and usual a few thirties show themselves it’s another BCAC classic.

Walthamstow 2/3 Round Up

Results
1st - Joe Morgan / Daryl Peck - 122.07 - Korda B
2nd - Tom Dove / Ben freeman - 99.09 - Korda B
3rd - Grannt Deacon / Darren Brannan - 59.09 - Mainline

Double Bubble. Morgan and Peck with part of their winning catch at Walthamstow 2One of the venues that could steal the crown for the biggest fish of the event, all eyes were on the 2/3 for a big weight of hefty carp. The No 3 was not fishing it’s usual self and the regulars and bank visitors all thought and indeed voiced that the match would be dominated by the no 2 reservoir.  A tactical pegging by the organisers saw the No 3 swing into action very early on in the game and it was the Korda Young Guns of Tom Dove and Ben Freeman who started the Alonso / Hamilton style battle with their team mates, the marginally more experienced Joe Morgan and Daryl Peck, all flying the flag for Korda B.

By tea on day one it was Morgan / Peck who stood dominant out of Tea Party 2 with 45.08 on the board ahead of Dove/ Freeman at the opposite end of the 3 on 21.02. Bringing up the rear (metaphorically speaking of course) were ‘Stow and BCAC old hands Grant Deacon and Darren Brannan with a solitary 12.15 from the boom swim on the No2.

Night is always exciting on the Stow and so it proved to be for Dove / Freeman. An evening spell of action running into darkness meant that by 9am they were in the lead on 76.04. Not to be outdone, Morgan / Peck were under a pound away with 75.09 having landed a couple of absolute crackers in the early hours of the morning. Another team battle was developing with Brannan / Deacons Mainline team mates Nick Upton and Tom Onslow jumping into third with a solitary 26.10. Dove / freeman nicked one late morning to jump back into first (99.09) and Deacon/  Brannan did likewise to get back into third (37.14) By tea Morgan / Peck had closed in again and were just 1.06 off first placed Dove / Freeman with 98.03 on the board and once again Onslow / Upton had nipped in front, this time on 50.12.

The last night was quiet, although by now everyone around the lake bar one team had put fish on the bank. First and second were edging away, but 7 teams battles it out within 1 fish of Onslow / Uptons 50.12.

By morning it was Brannan / Deacon that had nipped into third with a 21.11 to give them 59.09 and the battle still raged between the Korda boys. Just before close Morgan put the net under a cracking 24.04 to steal first from his team mates and amass 122.07 in one of the fairest and most even Stow 2/3 events for a few years. Dove / Freeman came in second on 99.09 and gave the Korda B boys a very good chance of a team win when the results of the team event are decided in the semi’s.
