Pre-Match Round Up
One of this years new venues and what an exciting venue it is too. Todber is set in the Dorest countryside and contains hundreds of carp ranging from doubles to thirties. Hold on to your rods here as the action will be thick and fast and multiple catches are expected. Due to open to the public in May, the lads have the chance to fish it before it even opens, and practice / promotional sessions there are always successful with maggots, pellets and the method proving particularly effective. The line up is impressive too with the likes of regular qualifiers Merrit and Marsh, plus former World Carp Classic winners Clive Hicks and Keith Turner all turning out. Ad to tat a lot of local talent and it’ll be a corker.
Todber Manor Round Up
Results
1st - Rob Marsh and Lee Merritt - Team Mainline
2nd - Jack Stamp and Colin Bright
3rd - Richard Matthews and John Stanley
It was high hopes for a big weight at the prolific new Todber Manor fishery in Dorset. Mainline marauders Rob Marsh and Lee Merritt had been practising down there and getting a few under their belts so were marked as favourites. Some of the local keenies had few things to say about that, and battle commenced. First to draw blood were Greg Palmer and Wes Brake and it looked like the locals were easing ahead. Joe Lazarr and Doug Sinfield followed on with a 12.04 and then Marsh / Merritt swung into play. Brake and Palmer lost two fish in quick succession then landed a nipper to stay at the top and the battle carried on throughout the day with plenty of lost fish, sob stories and a few conquests being reported. By tea at on day 1 the leaders were Palmer / Brake with 52.06 followed a fish or so behind by Marsh / Merritt on 34.11, and in the last qualifying slot were Lazarrr / Sinfield on 23.05. Five pairs were on the score sheet but most of the lads were losing fish.
Into dark proved productive and by 9pm Marsh / Merritt were in first place on 88.13 Palmer / Brake had upped to 65.10 and a new team of Jack Stamp and Colin Bight were now into 3rd with 38.15. The night continued productive with the Mainline boys Mash / Meritt emerging unscathed at the top by 9am the following morning on a massive 244.05 including a fantastic 30.02 mirror for Marsh. Bright / Stamp fell into second on 125.11 with Brake / Palmer on 111.12 in third. These three were running away at the top with 4th a long way behind on 36.13.
At the half way stage 2nd and 3rd remained the same, and only Marsh / Merritt upped their tally to 256.12 despite having one fish disqualified for netting outside their area. The afternoon proved thick and fast for the Mainline boys with another 10 fish, including 2 twenties, gracing their nets by 9pm to put them completely out of the way with 390.04. A right battle raged of between second and third but Bright / Stamp eased ahead and took two fish for 156.13. Next door to them Lee Shearman and Steve Slater came in from nowhere with three twenties, a 30 and a handful of doubles to bounce them into third with 154.13, and opposite them, Richard Matthews and John Stanley were also having a flurry of fish which by 9pm totalled 140.04. The Wolverhampton duo of Andy Less and Stuart Leighton made up part of the chasing pack and sat on 137.04 pushing Brake / Stamp down the list on 125.11 but with everything still to play for.
By dawn Marsh / Merritt had pushed further ahead breaking the 500lb barrier and were still going. Their 501.05 put them miles ahead of Stamp / Bright on 207.09 with Matthews / Stanley on 206.07 in third. Some way behind with a bit of work to do were Brake / Palmer on 162.12 .
By close of business the winners were clear and it was just the numbers for history that mattered. 548.08 was their massive tally putting Robbie Marsh and Lee Merritt into the semi’s and the Todber history books. Stamp and Bright held second (219.02) and Matthews / Stanley third (215.07) |
