Kingsbury

Pine Pool has been with us from the start of the BCAC in 1999 and still remains a midlands classic. The prolific gravel pit is usually a late summer event but this year we move it to early spring to keep you on your toes as the fish will not be in the usual places. Expect doubles and twenties with a surprise or two bigger 30 there to be caught Available as a day ticket water.

Pine pool on the Kingsbury complex is one of the top waters in the Midlands and has been with us from the start of the BCAC. A small water that responds well to surface baits and zigs in the day with bagging at night the usual option, it can be prolific if somewhat temperamental. Normally no nights means that the main action comes during the hours of darkness, and with fish now well over 30lbs mark there are some crackers present. At only £4.00 a day it makes a brilliant day ticket venue and it’s clear water means that it’s ideal for perfecting your presentation.

he awesome Savins with a brace from their Kingsbury dominationThe Pine Pool at Kingsbury Water Park is a longstanding fixture on the BCAC circuit and there is usually plenty of night time action to be had as the venue is another usually day only water. As the sun rose on Friday morning most of the lakes population seemed to be on display in the car park swim – but how long would they stay there for?
First blood went to Team Mainlines Lee Collings and Roy Russell who soon had a 15lb mirror on the bank, but it was also clear by now that the grouped up carp were starting to spread out around the lake. By 6pm the high pressure conditions were taking their toll on the carp, and only two fish had been banked, with Ian and Alan Hancock clinging onto first place with 16lb 3oz.

Overnight the expected action just didn’t materialize, and with just the odd fish being caught things were hotting up for a very close match. In peg 12 however, the father and son team of Russell and Aaron Savin had started to get in amongst the fish and with a weight of 75lb 8oz they held a comfortable lead. Collings and Russell took another fish for 33lb 2oz, and Daren Wilkins and Leon Matthews in the Reeds (peg 1) were snapping at their heels with 29lb 5oz.

Going into the final night the qualifying places really were up for grabs, and apart from the awesome Savins increasing their lead to 145lb 1oz, there was not a lot else coming out. All this was about to change though, and as darkness approached the Kingsbury carp decided they were hungry after all. After a shaky start in the back bay, Mark Sawyer and Simon Wheeler in peg 11 finally had some fish head their way, and it didn’t take long for them to take advantage and bag a few. Over in peg 1 Wilkins and Matthews were holding their own and Collings / Russell could be seen pacing around their swim trying to decide on their spots for the night very aware of the battle they were about to enter into; The tension was building nicely!

It has to be said that with the exception of the impressive display from team Savin, this one went right to the wire, and it was great to see all the teams battling it out to the final hooter. Aaron and his ‘chief netsman’ father Russell Savin took first place after a fine display of angling with 253lb 15oz, whilst second went to the match boys Sawyer / Wheeler with their late run of fish totaling 99lb 7oz. Joining them at the semis will be Collings and Russell, who had a great final night to finish on 87lb 2oz. There were plenty of other teams in the running and, like Walthamstow, it was a close call with half a dozen or so teams who could have made it through.
