Chilham Mill
Mid Kent Chilham Mill is so good and so popular that we just have to go back there to give more people a chance of fishing this beautiful water. The target is twenties and thirties and it is one of the more serious waters in the line up. Available as part fo the the Mid kent Fisheries card, Chilham is a real gem of a water.

Such is the popularity of this magnificent 25 acre lake in Kent we return to the venue under the watchful eye of Mid Kent Fisheries top man Chris Logsdon for the second time this year. With weights averaging 20lbs plus it is a 20s factory with many good fish over 30lbs to go for along with a few 40s. May is a great time to fish down at Chilham and swim choice again is the biggest test at the draw so if you don’t do your homework then you might not make it to the semi. The fantastic Fish with the Stars event last weekend saw Martin Locke and partner win the event with 11 fish including 4 over 30lbs so a biggy or two is definitely on the cards.
Chilham Mill Round Up
Results
1st - Tim Swain and Andy Swain - 617lb 01oz
2nd - Ali Hamidi and Gaz Fareham - 337lb 13oz - Team Korda A
3rd - Peter Holehouse and Ian Huntington - 110lb 06oz - Team Fox Mainline
Following the impressive weight set by Martin Locke and his partner at the Fish with the Stars event the week before the BCAC eliminator, and coupled with the fact that they won from there last year, there was little wonder that first out the bag Pete Holehouse and Ian Huntington chose swim 10, one tree island for their BCAC campaign this year. The Blackpool Bombers have an incredible record in the BCAC and everyone was now on edge. However it was Ali Hamidi that was first to draw blood with a 28.08 mirror, and a couple more doubles through the afternoon meant that by tea time the Korda A team of Ali Hamidi and Gaz Fareham were in top slot on 61.08 with the Swain brothers Tim and Andy in second with 47.08 and last years third overall pairing of Neo Ferrari and Barry Payne in third on 25.08.
Fishing on the maggots, the Swain boys kept piling them in and by first light the next morning their hard work through the night had well and truly paid off. With 246.06 on the score sheet they were absolutely blitzing the competition. Hamidi and Fareham were sitting in second slot on just 80lbs and in third were Ferrari and Payne on 50lbs exactly. Hamidi / Fareham, never ones to miss a trick, soon cottoned on to the maggots and a change in tactics saw their fortunes raise. Into top gear they went and through the day mounted a charge to challenge the Swains but it just wasn’t to be. The Swain bros had a massive head start and by tea on Saturday their total of 21 fish for 433.06 was well out of reach of the others and had smashed the 48 hour match record for Chilham. The Korda charge was a good one though and their tally by tea was an impressive 190.14 so the tactical change had obviously worked. Third saw a two way battle develop between the earlier podium placers Ferrari / Payne now on 81.12 and Tony’s Tackles Chris Kirrage and Nick May on 78.09, Nick having taken the biggest of the match, a cracking 33.08 mirror. Elsewhere the rest of the field struggled.
The Swain boys could have taken their foot off the gas but kept going through the night just to set a new record and their tally made incredible reading. Thirty fish in 48 hours from Chilham is awesome angling in anyone’s books, and the quality of the fish with a good head of upper twenties meant that their winning total was an unbelievable 617.01, the biggest ever BCAC match weight outside of Thorpe Lea. Their lead was unassailable from the off, as was Hamidi and Farehams second placed weight of 337.13, a massive total under normal conditions and one which must be applauded as this weight would normally have been a blitz for Chilham in any other event. The big battle however was for the last remaining qualifying slot. Ferrari / Payne hung on for a while, Kirrage and May challenged, but it was the pairing that you can never dismiss, Pete Holehouse and Ian Huntington for Fox who came in through the back door to take the honours. Three fish during the last night saw them total 110.06 by close of proceedings and whilst it was a case of the big names falling at Thorney, the favourites qualified at Chilham. |
