Pre-Match Round Up
The complex has been under DDAPS control since the early 1930s and was one of the early pioneering waters of modern carp fishing. Situated in the Darenth Valley, carp have been there from the early days and the BCAC are proud to be visiting a piece of carp fishing history! At approximately 17 acres, this gravel pit has everything a carp angler could want. Loads of bays and quiet areas, plenty of room, and loads of decent sized carp. Brooklands could turn out to be a busy one for the anglers and the marshals alike with standard tactics the main practice and twenties the target.
Brooklands Round Up
Results
1st - Nick Howard and Mark Casper
2nd - Lee Williams and Jayne Curry
3rd - Nick Norton and John Crundwell
Brooklands was always going to a battle of the locals with a load of regulars turning out for the first BCAC event held at this historic venue. Everyone was applauding the pegging, and with a party in every swim the atmosphere was brilliant. First to draw blood were team Hydro Links Sam Knight and Gordon Beaney in peg 8, with a 17.12 mirror. The 6pm score check on day 1 only showed another fish being registered and that meant that Stuart Wallace and Gary Bainbridge were in second with 11.13.
As darkness fell there was high expectations, but like Berners Hall the lake remained quiet until the early hours. Nick Norton and John Crundwell took a 21.01 and 17.04 in the net at the same time to jump straight into the lead but it was short lived as Nick Howard and Mark Casper on the A2 bank had a run of fish including a 22.06, a 23.02 plus a 15.05 to fire them into first. At breakfast there was no change and by lunch time some sporadic action around the lake meant that most teams were on the score board. A cracking 26 common for Lee Williams and Jayne Curry put them just off the leader board but first was held by Howard / Casper on 60.13, second went to Norton / Crundwell on 38.05 and everyone was in contention for third with Beaney / Knight hanging on by the skin of their teeth on 28.06 at half way stage.
It looked like the fish may get on top on Saturday, but a cold wind kept them down and the afternoon proved quiet. Knight / Beaney snuck a fish out and a place back landing a 13.02 and swapping places with Norton / Crundwell in the process. Once again the night proved very quiet with a couple of fish coming out but the main action started again at first light. Lee Williams and Jayne Curry had a brace of 16s in the net at the same time to grab second on 59.10 and a lost fish could have challenged the leadership if landed. Former BCAC champion Kev Reynolds and Katy Aylward landed two to add to their previous two fish tally and amass a total of 49.14 to sit in 4th, but it was Norton / Crudwell who were hanging in there after a 12lb fish put them up to 50.15 and kept them on the leader board. Once again a number of teams hung off the leader board and just one fish could catapult them into the limelight
It ended close with the match running to the wire. Top honours went to Nick Howard and Mark Casper with 73.01, second were Lee Williams and Jayne Curry on 59.10, and the final qualifying slot went to Nick Norton and John Crundwell with 50.15 just two pounds ahead of fourth. |
