Post Match Report

This is the first time we have held a qualifier on the South Lake and the anglers were in for a very different type of match experience than the usual events.

Island pegs, Pegs inaccessible from the land and gear boated about. Add to this they would be fishing in swims that are imbedded in Carp Folk law, “The Swimming Pool”, “Bryants Point”, “Dredger Bay”.

The match started very slowly with no fish seen all day on Friday or through the hours of darkness.

At First light that all changed and within a few hours 8 pairs had caught.

Lee Baker and Rich Seeds in peg 8, “Swimming Pool” area were leading the pack with 10 fish,

Just a few fish behind was David Colclough, fishing without his partner, in Peg 1 “Hooligans”.

There was already a battle developing for third spot between Billy Tasker and Liam Cooper in peg 2, near the Lodge, and peg 7’s Mark Woolford and Alan Coombes fishing “Bryants Point”

Saturday was again quiet with the only big move being made by Jordan Wilkinson and Daniel Mason in peg 5 banking 4 fish pushing them up into third spot, just 10lb off second and only 20lb ahead of 5th. It was going to be tight!

Sunday morning was a repeat of Saturday with fish flying out to a few pegs. Peg8’s Lee and Rich further extended their lead with 19 fish, David in peg 1 put a comfortable gap between him and third spot by netting 11 fish. The third spot had shuffled again with Mark & Alan in peg7 Jumping to third spot, but only by 5lb’s. But that would prove to enough to see them through to the next round.
